Jo Leinen, Senior Associate

born 1948 in Saarland near the German-French border, is a Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the Environmental Committee. 1957-1972 study of law and economics in Saarbrücken and Bonn. 1972-1974 study at the College of Europe in Brügge/Belgium and at the Insitute for World Affairs in Connecticut/U.S., afterwards active as lawyer. From April 1985 to November 1994 Minister for the Evironment in Saarland and Member of the Landtag. Since 1995 board member of Eurosolar Germany. May to September 2000 member of the delegation of the European Parliament to the convenant to work out the EU charta of fundamental rights. Since end of 2002 vice-president of the European Movement. President of the Union of European Federalists (UEF) from 1998 to 2005. Jo Leinen was President of the European Parliament’s Constitutional Committee for many years. Since 2009 he is Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Advisory Group of the Campaign for the Establishment of a UN Parliamentary Assembly. He has been a supporter of KDUN since its foundation in 2003.
